An expensive two points, but two points nonetheless. What a game! We came away with a win in a game that saw the Bulldogs on top for most of proceedings.
Throw in a bunch of injuries and re-shuffle in our line and things were made a little more difficult, but one thing’s for sure, we need to be better from now on, and it starts this Monday night against the Cowboys.
There were plenty of positives that came out of Good Friday. Chris McQueen not only got a good run, but he stayed on-field for the entire 80 minutes. He is such a versatile player, his game is solid and having such match-fitness really helped when we had only two on the bench.
Another positive to come from the game was Dave Tyrrell catching a deflection to be an unlikely try-scorer. Seeing the joy on his face when he scored was heart-warming.
Obviously though, the biggest positive is that we didn’t give up and managed to grind out an important win.
This week we play Thurston and his Cowboys. With the great news that George Burgess beat the charge at the judiciary and that his brother – along with Tyrrell – have signed new contracts with us, we can straighten things up and win this game. A bit more shuffling, coupled with the hope that John Sutton will be okay to play at five-eighth and I believe we are on track. It won’t be easy, but I am positive our boys have knuckled down this week to improve.
It is only round six and the season is a long one, but our next step is to control Thurston and produce a solid performance against the Cowboys by playing the game strong, hard and professionally.
Round five is behind us and a few of our best players are sidelined so it is time for the others to stand up, gain experience, try new things and collect another two points.
Up the Mighty Rabbitohs!
