The Wests Tigers will pose plenty of threats to the Rabbitohs’ defensive line this Sunday afternoon according to Souths Head Coach Michael Maguire.
With budding combinations across the park including the halves pairing of Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses, as well as a lethal back-three pairing comprising of James Tedesco, Kevin Naqaima and Pat Richards, the Rabbitohs mentor sees plenty in the Jason Taylor coached Tigers.
“They’re a quality team,” said Maguire.
“I think their combinations – they’ve grown throughout the pre-season and you can see that they’ve got the similar style from where JT (Jason Taylor) has come from so we’re expecting a tough encounter.
“With their pack, they’ve got some good size there with their front-rowers and they ball-play.
“Also with their two halves now, they go at the line and take you on, so we’ve got to be very aware defensively when they come at you because they can step off both feet and then with the speed out wide. Right across the park they’ve got some strike.”
Both the Rabbitohs and the Tigers come into Sunday’s round three clash at ANZ Stadium unbeaten, but with plenty to improve on. For Maguire, the match is an opportunity to improve on a resilient performance against the Roosters last week at the same venue.
“The boys are really enjoying obviously how we’re playing,” said Maguire.
“We faced a bit of adversity through that last game and we had to control momentum at times through that game.
“But to come out the back-end, it builds confidence in our team, but we’re aware we’re going in (to play) a very enthusiastic team this weekend.”
The Rabbitohs will take on the Wests Tigers in a Sunday afternoon blockbuster at ANZ Stadium this Sunday, 22 March at 4pm. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
