What a spectacle! When we need to turn on the entertainment, we sure know how! South Sydney against the Sydney Roosters delivered everything we could have asked for.
When we crossed over for two early tries, I thought ‘how good is this? We are going to roll them’ but then they scored three tries in quick succession. I had a fear that we had blown it, but I should have known better.
It was try for try until the end when we finally took the game from their grasp. They tried, they really did, but just like Pearce’s tackle attempt on George Burgess, we flicked them off and took home the two points.
Last week I said this would be a game of the halves, well I am proud to say Keary stepped up, as did Reynolds, but Keary’s try assist to Alex Johnston in the second half was further evidence of his foresight on field. We have two fantastic players wearing the six and seven! I could not be more impressed by them.
Obviously though, the highlight of the game was Greg Inglis. Our second try that he mastered for Alex Johnston was a pure delight. I was happy to just see him get out of the in-goal area when he put the foot down. He plays for our team, not for himself, and that makes him something to behold.
It will no-doubt be a loss to have John Sutton sidelined for six weeks, but to know that he played on from the 48th minute with a broken jaw and carried on like nothing had bothered him was brilliant. ‘Sutto’ staying on-field was selfless and shows his commitment to the red and green. Losing to the Roosters is just not an option and he showed what that win really means to our mighty Club.
Another Sunday afternoon game at home looms this weekend. Many games against the Tigers are memorable. Golden points, field goals, floggings (for and against) – such a history of excitement! So what will this game bring? Only time will tell.
Every game is important and every win is vital. So let’s bring it Rabbitohs Members and supporters! Can Greg and AJ combine again this week? Can George storm over the line for more barging four-pointers? I think we can do all of that and more!
Up the Mighty Rabbitohs!
The Rabbitohs will take on the Wests Tigers in a Sunday afternoon blockbuster at ANZ Stadium this Sunday, 22 March at 4pm. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
