Rabbitohs speedster, Alex Johnston, has highlighted the importance of starting the season strongly as his side prepares to take on the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium in this Thursday night’s season opener in Queensland.

The Rabbitohs will be looking to make it three opening round wins in a row when they take on a new-look Broncos side back under the guidance of coach, Wayne Bennett.

“It’s always a challenge to start off the season strong,” said Johnston.

“That’s what we’re wanting to do – just play a great game against the Broncos. It’ll be a great atmosphere and I can’t wait.”

“We’re just trying to play our own game and focus on ourselves and week in, week out play the best that we can.”

The Rabbitohs enjoyed a successful trial period, picking up the Auckland Nines trophy, as well as the World Club Championship in the process. For Johnston, those performances are encouraging as the side prepares to take on the Broncos.

“We’ve had a big pre-season, it’s been great,” said Johnston.

“I think we’ve fallen into our structures really well and I can’t wait to play this season with them.”
