Rabbitohs prop forward, Thomas Burgess said that he was touched by the level of red and green support in the UK following his side’s record 39-0 victory over ESL champions St Helens at Langtree Park.
Red and green was a feature of World Club Series week, and for UK native Burgess, to represent the Club on his home turf was a source of great pride for the English international.
“It makes me feel really proud actually, to be an Englishman over here,” said Burgess.
“I’m very proud to represent Souths over here in my home country and it’s a great feeling tonight.”
While the score was a record winning-margin for the World Club Challenge, Burgess stressed that it was not an indication of how tough the game actually was.
“I don’t think the score-board reflects how tough a game it was,” said Burgess.
“Saints came out hard at us and we knew in that second half we had to go 100 per cent straight into them just to try and shut their game down. But we’re pleased with the performance tonight.”
