Rabbitohs NYC Coach, Ben Gardiner, is looking forward to his side returning to Redfern this Saturday when his under 20s side take on the St George Illawarra in a pre-season trial.
Gardiner urged Rabbitohs Members and supporters to turn out in force to Redfern Oval to see the future stars of the Club.
“Quite a few of the boys played here last week in a great experience for them,” said Gardiner.
“It’s going to be another great one for the fans to come down to. The gates are going to be thrown open and we’re hoping to get plenty of fans here to watch the boys play the Dragons.”
“It’s a great test for where we are as a team. We’re expecting the Dragons to be strong again this year and the boys are really ready for the challenge.
“They want to get out and see where they’re at and it’s a great opportunity to put the boys that have been training with the NRL back with NYC squad members and hopefully we bring it together and work on some combinations in preparation for round one.”
The match comes just one week after many of Gardiner’s men played at the Return to Redfern clash against the Northern Pride last weekend – fighting back to score a gritty draw. But despite the match being a trial, Gardiner emphasised that Club culture dictates that nothing short of victory is acceptable.
“That’s our Club culture and we like to put our best foot forward in every game,” said Gardiner.
“One thing we’re about with the 20s is preparing the boys so they’re ready to play first grade, so all of those cultural aspects that Madge puts into place with first grade we try to follow up in the 20s.”
Kick-off is at 4:30pm, and entry to the ground is free.
