The South Sydney Rabbitohs have been nominated for the Australian Institute of Sport’s ‘Sport Performance of the Year’ Award for 2014 on the back of an unforgettable 21st Premiership victory.
The Rabbitohs have been nominated as one of six outstanding individual and team performances that can be voted on by the public, including; Daniel Ricciardo, Nick Kyrgios, Sally Pearson, The Diamonds and the Steelers.
The nomination comes as part of the AIS’s Sports Performance Awards (ASPA’s), an opportunity to recognise Australia’s leading athletes, teams, coaches and administrators by celebrating their outstanding achievements throughout 2014.
The Rabbitohs’ 2014 victory marked the first time since 1971 that the Club took out the Premiership amid euphoric scenes across Sydney and Australia. The match took place in front of an ANZ Stadium ground record crowd of 83,833 Members and supporters – many of whom wore the red and green with pride to watch history be written.
The awards will be announced at a ceremony at the Melbourne Museum on Wednesday 11 February 2015.
