After claiming a record 21st Premiership victory in 2014, The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the South Sydney Rabbitohs have made Facebook’s Most Talked About Topics in Australia list in the social media platform’s Year in Review released this week.

The men in red and green were a hot topic in 2014, ranking eighth in the list ahead of the number one Top Global Topic, the FIFA World Cup, (ranked ninth in Australia), while also beating out the race that stops the nation, the Melbourne Cup, at number 10.

The Rabbitohs were also the highest ranked sporting topic in the list, topped by the death of Robin Williams, followed by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Malaysian Airlines after the dual tragedies of MH370 and MH17.

The result caps-off an incredible 2014 for the Rabbitohs on Facebook, who celebrated racking up 300,000 likes on the platform the day before the 2014 NRL Grand Final, before going on to reach new heights just weeks later by surpassing 350k. The Club currently sits just under the 370k mark (as at December 10).

In a season that produced many highlights on-field, the highlights have been mirrored by Rabbitohs Members and supporters online, who have taken to social media to show their approval with the click of a button.

With links to all the latest stories, photos, videos, and updates – as well as serving as a chat-room for our most passionate Members and supporters – Facebook is a vital source of information, news and engagement for those who bleed red and green.

A huge thank you to all of our followers on social media and we look forward to even more people joining the conversation in the new year!
