The South Sydney Rabbitohs have signed Australian Schoolboys Rugby Union player Angus Crichton to a two-year deal starting in 2015.

Crichton, a centre or back rower, will join the Rabbitohs’ under 20s squad for pre-season training in November as he embarks on a career in Rugby League.

Crichton played three seasons in The Scots College First XV, winning the GPS title in 2013, then going on to represent the victorious New South Wales Schoolboys I at the Australian Schools Rugby Championships in 2013 and 2014. His performances for New South Wales earned him selection in the Australia A Schoolboys side in 2013 and the Australian Schoolboys squad in 2014, before making the switch to the Rabbitohs for the 2015 season.

Originally from Young in country New South Wales, Crichton also spent time training with the Roosters’ under 18s and under 20s in recent seasons, but he sees his future in the red and green of the Rabbitohs.

Crichton will also move from school to university studies at Sydney University next year as he looks to pursue a post-football career in media and communications.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire said: “Angus is one of a number of exciting prospects we have coming through the ranks at the Club, and if he works very hard and learns what it takes to be a professional Rugby League player at South Sydney, then he will earn the opportunity to represent the Club at under 20s and first grade levels.

“We have a great crop of youngsters coming through and guys like Dylan Walker and Alex Johnston have shown that with hard work and dedication to the team you can achieve great things.”
