The South Sydney Rabbitohs’ 2015 pre-season schedule has been finalised with the Rabbitohs set to play in three countries in both hemispheres throughout January and February, giving Rabbitohs Members and supporters all around the globe the opportunity to see their team play as they prepare for their premiership defence.
The Rabbitohs’ pre-season will open with the Dick Smith NRL Auckland Nines tournament to be played at Eden Park in Auckland on the weekend of Saturday 31 January to Sunday 1 February 2015.
The Rabbitohs will then play the St George Illawarra Dragons in the Charity Shield on Saturday 7 February at ANZ Stadium, followed by the ‘Return to Redfern’ match against the NRL State Championship-winning Northern Pride on Saturday 14 February at Redfern Oval.
The Rabbitohs will then play in the World Club Challenge against Europe’s best team, Super League Champions St Helens, at Langtree Park in the United Kingdom on Sunday 22 February (local time). The Rabbitohs will be joined by the Brisbane Broncos and St George Illawarra Dragons in representing the NRL as they take on the Super League’s Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves as part of the expanded World Club Series.
The Return to Redfern match was originally scheduled to be played against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, however due to the Rabbitohs qualifying for the World Club Challenge in 2015, the Return to Redfern match against the Bulldogs has been postponed until 2016.
The Return to Redfern match is always a wonderful day of celebration at the Club’s traditional home, and this year Rabbitohs Members and supporters will be able to get up and close and personal with the Telstra Premiership Trophy, as well as farewelling the Rabbitohs squad selected to fly to England to take on the might of St Helens in the World Club Challenge who fly out of Sydney the next day.
Tickets for the Return to Redfern clash with the Northern Pride will go on sale to 2015 Members of the Rabbitohs, and Members of the Northern Pride, on Tuesday 4 November. Members of both Clubs will receive further information on ticketing in the coming week.
