A Member's Perspective - FW1, 2014
What a year it has been! So we were pipped at the post again by the Roosters in the final round – no matter. I know our boys have more in the tank for the next few weeks, and when you look back on a season where we flew under the radar for the majority of it, I think we are heading into the finals in a good place. Every team that played us had a fight on their hands this year, and even if we were shocked out of the blocks, we always gave them a good serve in the end.
This year we have seen the rise of young-guns like Keary, Johnston & Auva’a – all of whom have come into the year with focus and drive. They have matched it with the best and won us many a game. Then our senior players have complemented their fast pace with cool heads and experience.
We have seen two of the best tries of 2014 come from Greg Inglis – an amazing player who every single opposition player would prefer to have in their side rather than against them.
Reynolds has been a cool head for us. Many of our games saw us start slow, but he held his ground, knew his big men would get him in position and used the time he was given very well.
I could talk all day about our players. I haven’t even mentioned any forwards, but I think it is time to turn to the new competition that starts now. It’s finals time Rabbitohs! And we’re a part of it!
I am jumping out of my skin! The business-end is here and while the players are all about focus, for me… well… I want to scream from the rooftops. I want to run through Coogee, Marrickville, Erskineville, Botany Bay and Kensington with one red paint brush and one green paint brush. I cannot wait to see the Burgess boys power up-field, and put on the big hits. I can’t wait to see Issac Luke gain sneaky metres.
So, Manly. They have a team of good players. We went down to them once, and beat them in round 22 in front of a big crowd at the SCG. We need to come together again now, bring our voices, our will, our passion and most of all, our love for this great Club to help the boys over the line.
Strap yourselves in Rabbitohs. We are in this together!
Up the Mighty Rabbitohs!
