Rabbitohs players lined up to introduce themselves to an apparent new addition to their playing squad this week. But on closer inspection, the new addition turned out to be a freshly shorn Lote Tuqiri.

“I didn’t want to be one of those blokes who held on for too long,” laughed Tuqiri about his new look.

“I probably picked the worst week – it’s been the coldest it’s been for a while. I felt weird, kept looking at myself in mirrors, thinking ‘who’s that bloke?’”

The dual-international, who claims to not having sported the cleanly shaven look since his days with the Broncos back in 2002, laughed that the aerodynamic look could increase his speed.

“I have to check out the GPS systems and see how I’ve gone that last couple of days,” said Tuqiri.

Tuqiri’s Rabbitohs will this week take on the North Queensland Cowboys in what will be the Club’s last regular season home-game of the year.

Coming into the round on the back of five successive wins, Tuqiri cited definite room for improvement in the red and green’s with only three rounds left.

“I think it’s just getting our game in order,” said Tuqiri of what his side needs to concentrate on.

“We probably haven’t played our best, but we’ve been playing pretty good – definitely plenty of room for improvement.

“It’s probably scary for ourselves a bit, but there’s definitely room for improvement.”
