The 2014 Rabbitohs Indigenous Jersey was launched this week as part of ‘Close The Gap’ activities and will be debuted tonight (Thursday) when the Rabbitohs take on the Broncos at ANZ Stadium.
Available in mens and kids sizes, the 2014 Indigenous Jersey will be available for purchase at the Rabbitohs home game this Thursday 14 Aug at ANZ Stadium. The jersey will also be available online through the Rabbitohs Online Megastore from 4pm EST Thursday.
Designed by former player and contemporary indigenous artist Sid Domic, the design uses lines, flames and circles to reflect various elements of indigenous culture.
· 3 black lines move from the left shoulder through to the bottom left, representing the 3 major rivers that bordered the South Sydney Indigenous communities (Nepean, Parramatta and Georges Rivers).
· The circle reflects how the people and rivers meet in the Sydney basin
· Flames reflect the importance of fire to the communities in the area during everyday life as well as for protection in battles
· Small black circles represent battles fought in the area.
