Sitting at the SCG on Friday night was not only exciting and uplifting, but also a pleasure seeing our boys top Manly at the right time of year.  It was a worry game for me, but I should never have feared! Not only did we beat them, we kept them from scoring a try for 74 minutes.

We all know Sam Burgess is a wonder, but he really got my heart-rate pumping in this game. There were two moments that really inspired me. The first was his mighty break in the second half off an Issac Luke pass. His agility and speed for a big man was champion, but when he saw Brett Stewart waiting for him behind the line and he knew he was surrounded on both sides, he launched himself into Stewart. It was powerful, and a statement in my eyes.

The other was a much smaller moment, but towards the end of the game, there was a loose-ball that a Manly player was about to snap up. But Sam, with his focus and power rammed in there like a bowling ball toppling the last pin. It was as though he – along with all his teammates – were not going to let that game go, and having the ball in his control was his way of making sure of that.

If we play with that same frame of mind every game from here on in, we’ll be on the right track. I was worried that we didn’t have the ball in the first quarter, but when we finally got it, we used it.

Turner and Auva’a tries kicked us off, while Tuqiri’s break had every Rabbitoh on their feet. Manly tried their guts out to swing the game back in their own favour, but we were there to put them on the back foot.

When Manly gave away silly penalties, we had Alex Johnston to capitalise with another four points and then saw Sam with his ripper break and try. To top it all off, we see Reynolds pot a field goal to complete, and seal the deal.

The best of all this is that we have more to give.

Now we have the Broncos. This is not a game to take lightly and if we really want to make a statement, we cannot drop the two points here.

I cannot wait to see what our boys can produce. So get behind them Members and don’t leave any petrol in the tank.

Up the Mighty Rabbitohs!
