After an injury scare on Monday night in Canberra, Rabbitohs forward Sam Burgess is positive about getting back onto the field this Sunday afternoon in Cairns when the Rabbitohs take on the Newcastle Knights at Barlow Park.
The English international returned to Sydney early on Monday to have scans on his shoulder following a tackle in the Rabbitohs’ round 20 match against the Raiders.
After receiving positive news, Burgess says he is working hard with Rabbitohs medical staff to play in the Big Show @ Barlow.
“The shoulder feels okay,” said Burgess.
“The scans came back better than they expected – no surgery needed – so I’m working hard with the medical staff to try and get right. It’s improving day by day.
“We’ll just see how it goes, Madge has given me as long as possible. I’ll travel with the team and I’ll probably do some tests on Saturday so I’ll know a little more then.

“Other than that, we’ll just take it day by day. If it’s not right, someone else will come in and do a good job.”
After experiencing last year’s match in the tropical climate of Cairns, Burgess is looking forward to heading back up this year to take on the Knights and re-engage with the wealth of Rabbitohs Members and supporters north of the border.
“Obviously we enjoyed it up in Cairns last year,” said Burgess.
“We had a good win, and it was a good crowd up there as well, so we’re looking forward to getting back up there – I think quite a lot of the squad is going up.
“So it’ll be a good weekend for the Club and hopefully the supporters up there will get behind us again. I think we almost had a full house (last year), so looking forward to that atmosphere again.”
