Rabbitohs prop forward, George Burgess, is under no illusions when it comes to just how tight this year’s competition is, with the Englishman citing the importance of getting back to back wins in the NRL.

The Rabbitohs will travel to Canberra on Monday night to take on the 15th placed Raiders following their convincing victory of the Parramatta Eels in Friday night football at Parramatta in round 19.

For Burgess though, victory over the Eels was just the beginning. With a bottle-neck in the middle of the competition ladder that could see teams fall a number of positions on the back of a loss, the prop has cited the real importance of taking the points in the nation’s capital this Monday.

“You’ve got to string back-to-back performances in this competition to keep the two points rolling and keep up the top of the ladder,” said George.

“There’s a big log-jam in the ladder and if you lose a couple of games, you find yourself dropping out of the eight.”

Burgess agreed that his side’s performance against the Eels was a much-improved affair, with the Rabbitohs completing 32 of their 36 sets.

“It’s just little thing like that that can win you games,” said George.

“Those are the things we weren’t doing, so we had to pick up on those and the points started coming for us.”
