A huge turn-out of over 600 Rabbitohs Junior Members were on hand today at the Rabbitohs High Performance Centre, Redfern Oval, to take part in the 2014 Junior Member Footy Clinic.
Junior Members – up to 15 years of age – joined their Rabbitohs heroes on the hallowed turf at Redfern, as they – along with NRL Development staff – ran the proud Members through rugby league drills and games designed to enhance their skills.
The day was an opportunity for the next generation of the Rabbitohs Family to get together and meet their heroes according to former Rabbitohs forward and current NRL Development Officer, Paul McNicholas.
"When the players come down, all their faces light up," said McNicholas of the hundreds of kids.
"I think the players actually enjoy it too and the kids are getting to get autographs from their idols and their heroes, so it's fantastic."
But the day was also an opportunity to reinforce some positive messages like good oral hygiene, being spruiked by Rabbitohs charity arm, Souths Cares. Colgate’s very own ‘Doctor Rabbit’ spent time at the ground posing for photos and handing out Colgate brush packs to raise awareness about the importance of protecting Aussie kids’ teeth both on and off the field.
At the clinic’s conclusion, players spent the morning signing autographs and posing for pictures, before Junior Members were treated with a Garlos pie and a gift bag containing items from; Audio Technica, Colgate, and Rhino Mouthguards.
