Rabbitohs players recently participated in Capital Training Institute’s Certificate III Fitness course as part of the NRL’s Welfare and Education, CareerWise program.
With the help of Membership partners CTI, Rabbitohs players spent time up-skilling themselves in a bid to prepare for life after football - the Certi III the first step in the all-important journey.
The CareerWise program seeks to support players in making well-informed choices about their future career. Assistance with flexible study options enables players to continue their education in their chosen field with consideration given to their training schedule.
Former Rabbitohs player and current coaching staff member, Matt King, spoke about the importance of guidance for young footballers when it comes to their post-football careers.
"Unfortunately it takes footballers a long time to understand that they're not going to be able to play footy forever," said King.
"I went through the same thing. When you're in your early twenties, you think you're going to play forever and life after footy's so far away."
Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire also endorsed the program, citing the importance of balance in a players' lives.
"I think it's a big part of what goes on here at Souths," said Maguire.
"I'm a big believer that having a good, stable life outside of footy really enhances your game on the field."
