George: Origin a Testing Time for All Teams
Rabbitohs front-rower, George Burgess, dismissed the notion that the Rabbitohs will miss players who won’t be playing on Friday night owing to either Origin or injury.
The Rabbitohs will be without Queensland Origin representatives Greg Inglis, Chris McQueen and Ben Te’o for Friday’s match against the Wests Tigers, while Dylan Walker will miss the clash with a thumb fracture. But Burgess isn’t fazed.
“This is a testing time for all teams,” said Burgess.
“You’ve got players going off to Origin mid-season and players get injured, so it’s time for the younger players to step up and stake their claim in the team and their mark in the NRL.”
When it comes to young players stepping up in 2014, the Rabbitohs have enjoyed positive results, with the Club successfully blooding five first grade debutants in the form of Kirisome Auva’a, Apisai Koroisau, Kyle Turner, Alex Johnston and Cameron McInnes – all of whom have gone on to make an impact.
After going down to the Tigers in round three, the two teams will again do battle in what is sure to be another physical encounter.
“Every game’s physical in the NRL,” said Burgess.
“There are big forward packs knocking around so you’ve got to be up there to match them. They’re one of the better teams in the competition I reckon.
“The talent in there with young Brooks and young Tedesco, and the older heads with Anasta and Farah – they’ll be one of the big teams this year so we’ve got to look out for them this Friday night.”
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will take on the Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium this Friday 13th June at ANZ Stadium in Round 14 of the Premiership.
