After defeating the New Zealand Warriors on Saturday night in Perth – despite a depleted side – Rabbitohs Captain John Sutton wants his side to produce more of the same enthusiasm and grit against the Tigers this week.
A string of injuries during the match had Coach Michael Maguire re-shuffling his line-up on the run in Perth. But his men didn’t disappoint their mentor, with the side turning in a 100 per-cent completion rate to trump the Warriors by 34-18, and Sutton wants the effort repeated.
“I think it’s just playing the way we did on the weekend,” said the skipper of what needs to be done to tame the Tigers on Friday.
“Completing our sets and defending strongly – in the second half we had a 100 per-cent completion rate and that was a first for us in a long time, so hopefully we can do that this week.
“We’ve been playing some good footy the last couple of weeks. It was a tough game on the weekend against the Warriors, but we’re very happy to get the win and looking forward to the Tigers this Friday.”
The Rabbitohs will be looking to improve on their last effort against the Tigers in round three after going down by what was a flattering 25-16 score-line in a brutal match.
Sutton pointed to better discipline and remaining focused on the team’s game-plan as the way to get the two points.
“That game was one where we weren’t at our best,” admitted Sutton of the round three clash.
“They definitely got the better of us. This time around hopefully we can be a lot more disciplined and just play the way we know we can play.
“I think they’re playing really good football. We’re going to have to be on our game. Luke Brooks has been playing really well and he’s definitely a player to watch.”
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will take on the Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium this Friday 13th June in Round 14 of the Premiership.
