The North Sydney Bears went down to the Manly Sea Eagles by 42-14 at North Sydney Oval on Saturday in what was the side’s fifth loss of the season.

The Bears had their best opportunity yet to post their first win since round one against neighbours the Sea Eagles, with both sides residing in the lower portion of the competition ladder.

But with Manly bolstered by the likes of first graders such as Tom Symonds and Cheyse Blair, the Bears were no match for the maroon and whites who ran in nine tries to three at the traditional ground.

In a rare highpoint of the afternoon, the Bears’ Jake Uluibau grabbed two tries, while Jake Williams also posted points for Norths during the match.

The result leaves North Sydney in second-last position (12th) on the NSW Cup ladder with a points differential of -72.

The Bears will get another chance to turn their season around next Sunday when they meet the third placed Wentworthville Magpies at North Sydney Oval in the first clash between the two teams for 2014.
