Player Stats
Top Metre Gainers
It’s not unusual to have three or four players make over 100 metres in a match, but to have six – four of whom play in the forwards – is a true sign of the return to form of the Rabbitohs’ forwards. Greg Inglis again topped the chart with 220 metres, while Sam narrowly missed out on a double-tonne.
Greg Inglis – 220m (16 runs)
Sam Burgess – 192m (27 runs)
George Burgess – 130m (16 runs)
Chris McQueen – 121m (15 runs)
Dylan Walker – 119m (13 runs)
Luke Burgess – 106m (13)
Top Tacklers
Sam and George weren’t just busy in the yardage stakes though, with the pair taking top honours in this week’s tackle-count. But an honourable mention must be made of debutant Cameron McInnes, who got his first grade career off to a flying start with 21 tackles in 34 minutes.
Sam Burgess – 37
George Burgess – 30
Apisai Koroisau – 28
Ben Te’o – 27
Top Tackle Breaks
Inglis is making this top spot his very own. The Kangaroos fullback/centre consistently hovers around 10 tackle breaks per match, and with a fend that has opposition defences constantly thinking twice, it’s little wonder. Inglis made a huge break during the second half of the match that saw him viciously swat three Dragons defenders in quick succession.
Greg Inglis – 10
Ben Te’o – 5
Apisai Koroisau – 4
George Burgess – 4
Sam Burgess – 4
Luke Burgess – 4
Spotlight – John Sutton
Round five had so much for Rabbitohs Members to proud of, but without doubt the most important stat – other than the final score – was John Sutton’s breaking of the Club’s all-time appearance record. Sutton is now one game ahead of Bob McCarthy on 212 games in the red and green.
Kick Metres
Adam Reynolds – 202m (5 kicks)
John Sutton – 101m (7 kicks)
Offloads
Sam Burgess – 3
Spotlight – Greg Inglis
Inglis is among the Rabbitohs’ most consistent performers each week – regularly topping the metres chart, as well as being quite adept at bagging points. It’s the fullback’s presence though that brings so much to this Rabbitohs line-up.
