A Members Perspective - Rd 5, 2014

In recent years I have seen my team go from strength to strength and come oh so close to a Grand Final appearance. I have seen the Membership numbers rise dramatically because other red and green blooded folk can feel the success brewing. Right now, we are having a slump.

We are unfortunate to not have all the players playing that we would like due to key position injuries, which has thrown a spanner in the works, but we are not down and out.

These men need each and every one of our 28,000+ Members to get behind them and push them over the line to get the ball rolling again.

So it’s the Men of League Heritage Round, and it is our Captains 212th first Grade game – a Souths Junior who has played each and every one of those first Grade games for us. His heart has always belonged to us and I am so proud to see him take over as our most capped player.

John Sutton is an inspiration. He deserves this title, and deserves a win to go along with it. He has been named back at five-eighth, and I am quite happy. The trials and early games saw him with some monster and pin-point kicks, and when he takes on the line, he puts everyone in two minds. He will be a force to be reckoned with.

The men coming up against this force – the Dragons – have had a dream start to the year. Three wins in a row. I am not worried though. We are at our glory ground and have shuffled our team around.

Merritt and Walker together will be a speedy, slippery combination, while Reddy and Goodwin will bring solidarity. Sam back to 13 will let him loose with his agility and Clark back on the bench is a welcome addition.  We can win this game Rabbitohs!

Don’t lose heart! We have a team marching forward, and now and then you hit a speed hump which shakes things up. But we have good foundations and a lot of people working around the clock to be sure that we get back on the straight and narrow.

This one’s for Sutto! Up the Mighty Rabbitohs!
