Souths Junior and former Rabbitoh Eddy Pettybourne was back at Redfern Oval yesterday (Tuesday) with his new Wigan Warriors teammates ahead of the English side’s World Club Challenge match against the Roosters on Saturday.

The Warriors were a welcome addition to training at Redfern as both teams prepare for matches this weekend, and the Mascot Jets product was happy to take in the scenery and re-connect with his former Rabbitohs teammates.

“It’s good to be back home,” said a smiley Pettybourne.

“It’s good to see all the boys and I’m just happy to be here.”

A surprise addition to the USA Tomahawks squad for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, Pettybourne is now a member of the English Super League’s reigning champions, Wigan – a notable distance from his Mascot roots.

“I’ve been away from my family for a couple of months so it’s been a bit tough, but lucky I have good friends and a few of the (Wigan) boys have been awesome to me.”

The former Rabbitoh is excited to be playing in his first World Club Challenge and is optimistic about his side’s chances.

“This will be my first Championship game, so I’m pretty grateful to be here and hopefully we can take that cup home.”

But for the damaging forward, home is still well and truly in South Sydney.

“It’s always red and green blood here – even my family,” admitted Pettybourne.

“I’m always a South Sydney supporter.”
