Cairns to Enjoy Titanic Battle as First Plays Fifth

Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire is preparing for what could be the game of the round this Sunday in Cairns, as the first placed Rabbitohs take on the Gold Coast Titans in a match that could see some changes in the make up of the top-four.

A win to the Rabbitohs will see the club retain first place on the NRL ladder, while a loss could see them drop as low as third with a resurgent Melbourne Storm only a single competition point behind after 13 rounds.

The Titans also have plenty to play for as they battle to climb in to the top four and Premiership contention.

With both clubs well rested after enjoying the bye in round 13 as well as welcoming back battle-hardened State of Origin players from both sides of the border Maguire is preparing for a tough encounter.

Theyre a quality team, said Maguire.

Theyve got a big forward pack and obviously very quick halves and some speed to burn out wide with (William) Zillman out the back.

I think right across the park we need to make sure were right on our game because its going to be extremely tough, but its one were looking forward to.

We just want to nail our performance, where everyone plays their part and does their job. Everybodys pretty focused about what we want to achieve.

The Bunnies mentor is also excited to be taking the important match up to Cairns, with a huge crowd expected to cheer on the two top-eight teams, as well as showcasing a host of current State of Origin representatives including; Greg Inglis, Ben Teo, Chris McQueen, Greg Bird, Ashley Harrison and Nate Myles.

From what Ive been told the tickets have been selling very quickly.

They do love their Rugby League up there so were looking forward to a big Rugby League crowd and hopefully they get right behind us. Were hearing that there are quite a lot of Souths supporters up in Cairns.

Its a good thing for the club and it allows us to get away as a team and do a bit of bonding while were away, but our main focus is being up there for the game.

The Rabbitohs will arrive in Cairns on Saturday in preparation for Sundays match. Kick-off is at 2pm with the Northern Pride vs Ipswich Jets Intrust Super Cup clash scheduled to kick off at 11:45am. Tickets are available at www.ticketscairns.com.au or by calling (07) 4053 8333.
