We looked the goods, with no sight of weakness in the line up. Inglis, Merritt, McQueen, George Burgess and Sutton impressed, which says something about how good we looked because every player out there looked confident and ready.
In the past after first round games I have said its OK, its round one, we need time to gel, but this year I am astounded at how we competed, looking like we never had an off season, looking as though the likes of Lima and Teo had been part of our team for years.
I have high hopes this year, and if last Thursday is anything to go by then I think we're in for another good year.
When the game kicked off, it was fast, almost like the first few minutes in an Origin match. The Roosters had come to play, and when they crossed for the first try butterflies hit the belly, but we all know not to take too much from a Souths/Roosters score line until the dying seconds.
Little did we know though, from there on in we were to be dominant.
Reynolds and Sutton showed their combination to be powerful, and that Inglis and Merritt will be dangerously waiting for the ball to come to them to capitalise on their plays.
The Roosters were worried about this Merritt, Inglis, Sutton combination, which was wonderful because McQueen and our big fellas were waiting for the ball to show what theyve got too.
We had options, options everywhere and it was beautiful.
Speaking of McQueen, what a game he had. He had a presence on the field that I had not seen from him before. A hunger that only a through and through Rabbitoh can show. I think he has found his position and I look forward to him growing into this mould.
George Burgess just about took the spotlight off his big brother with his passionate hit ups and die hard defence. His size blew people away and if George and Sams two other brothers play as well as these two did in round one then four Burgess boys will be a blessing for the Red and Green...especially when we have Lowe, Teo, Lima, Clark, Asotasi, Crocker and Peats knocking the door down to show what theyve got.
Another player who knocked the Roosters socks off was my favourite Issac Luke. This man has an ability to make sneaky metres, control the speed of the game and gain a penalty or two in our benefit with what seems little effort. His sight on the field always blows me away. We are fortunate to have him in our team because so much of our success these past years has stemmed from this man.
Once again, I could go on all day about individual players, but you all saw the game, you all know how spectacular we were...you all know the end result. So instead I am going to look to this Cronulla game.
Cronulla have a lot of support behind them at the moment. Their fans are rallying behind them really well, adrenalin may help them rise to the top, so we need to be ready.
We have the most Members, its our first home game of the season, we kick started the season in style and we are coming off our most successful season in a long, long time.
We should out number them, we should out cheer them and our colours should out shine them.
I am confident that our boys will start this game with great momentum from their Roosters win, and we will stay at the top of the table where we belong this year.
If we win this game we give ourselves that momentum that every team wants throughout the season. We have confidence because our boys have worked hard and look the goods, but the confidence will double if we take this match.
With or without off field dramas at the sharks, they have a great line up. We beat them, we turn heads. Professionalism, talent, depth and support, we have the whole kit and caboodle. I am just as excited for this game as I was for the Roosters match.
Get on board folks, its going to be a cracking match up.
I hope to not only see you but also hear you at the game.
Up the Mighty Rabbitohs!
