It was a tight opening with neither side able to capitalise on early opportunities. The Rabbitohs best chance came through hooker Cameron McInness who was held up after a scoot through dummy half in the 8th minute.

The Dragons were the first to strike when spilt ball led to a clever flick pass and a try to Justin Leigh for a 4-0 lead.

Siosaia Tanginoa hit back in the 27th minute when he beat his opposite from 35 metres out and won the race to the line. The kick by McInness was unsuccessful and the scores remained 4-4.

Just four minutes later, Dragons centre Grant Anderson powered over from close range to score in an identical position to the first St George try and restored their lead 8-4. Shannon Crook again missed the conversion.

St George-Illawarra sustained the pressure leading up to halftime but the Rabbitohs held firm despite plenty of field position. The score remained 8-4 at the break.

The Dragons further extended their lead upon resumption when Jacob Neill dove over under the posts and Crook duly converted for a 14-4 lead.

Christian Hazard reduced the deficit when he broke the line and raced 40 metres for a superb try. Fullback Will Paterson converted and the Dragons lead was cut to 14-10.

The four point deficit was short lived when quickfire tries through Justin Leigh (his second) and Sam Coster had the Dragons ahead 26-10.

The Rabbitohs pressed hard but couldnt break some determined defence with Luke Pollard held up. Cameron McInness finally cracked the defence but try soon after to Vincent Stowers restored the Dragons lead 32-16.

South Sydney struck again with two quick tries through fullback Will Paterson and Jordan Heyer and with five minutes to go Christian Hazard scored his second. Paterson landed all three pressure kicks to lock the scores up 32-all with just five minutes to play.

As time ticked away the Dragons worked the ball out from their half and Shannon Crook landed a massive field goal from 35m out to give them the lead. They werent quite finished as Man Mountain Kem Seru scored from the restart and Crook landed the sideline conversion. Final Score, Dragons 39, Rabbitohs 32.
