The announcement of Crocker as captain of the Club is a change from the captaincy structure of the Rabbitohs in 2012, where five players were named as co-captains for the season.
Crocker will have the (c) beside his name on the team sheet and will be the main spokesperson for the players on and off the field, however he is also part of a leadership group at the Club which will make decisions on behalf of the players, and guide the playing group on a daily basis.
Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire says that the decision to name one captain was made in conjunction with the players.
We are one group here at the Rabbitohs and the players and staff decided that the way to go, in terms of leadership this year, was to have a leadership group directing things with Michael to act as the captain on field and as a spokesperson off the field, Coach Maguire said.
Crock has demonstrated over a number of years that he is a strong leader on and off the field, and really acted in this role for the latter part of last season as it was.
Im delighted to be working with Michael at this level again and Im looking forward to him and the leadership group developing their skills to lead further, as well as helping nurture the next group of players coming through as leaders at this Club.
Crocker is honoured to be named captain of the Rabbitohs for 2013.
It is a real honour to captain this great Club and this talented group of players, Crocker said.
Part of our culture is that we are one group and, as captain, I will simply be the spokesperson on the field and, in some cases, off the field as well for the playing group.
The leadership group is full of strong characters and people who want to see the team achieve everything it can, and we know that the whole squad will be working in the one direction to make that happen; for our Members, corporate partners, supporters and the Club.
As I said, its an honour to captain this side and we will do everything we can to have a successful season in 2013.
