Words: Angus Robilliard | Video: Mark Barnaville

250 students from Matraville Soldiers Settlement and Malabar Primary School participated in the Souths Cares and Randwick City Council Footy Clinic today. The Footy Clinic was held at Pioneers Park and provided a great opportunity for students to learn about rugby league and pick up a few skills from the Rabbitohs first grade squad.

The Footy Clinic was also about promoting healthy and active lifestyles, respect and teamwork. Souths Cares General Manager, Cain Slater explained today’s clinic was one of many important initiatives being delivered by Souths Cares.

‘We work closely with the primary schools and high schools in our local area to promote education, employment and healthy lifestyles. We are fortunate to have the Rabbitohs playing group as great role models who inspire young people to live healthy and active lives’.

Sam Burgess explained the team enjoyed the opportunity to be involved in the Footy Clinic and spend time with the primary school students.  ‘It’s great to have so many kids here today getting active and learning about rugby league. We are a strong community Club and we receive a lot of support throughout the year- today’s Footy Clinic is about the team giving back to our community’.

Souths Cares would like to acknowledge thank our partners who made the event possible- Randwick City Council and the NRL development team.
