Growing In Confidence: Cook

Rabbitohs Hooker Damien Cook feels he's growing in confidence with the longer game time he's getting and is excited about the combinations forming between Reynolds, Walker, Johnston and himself on the training paddock.

Cook claimed the number nine jersey in Maguire's squad for our Round 21 clash with the Canberra Raiders and followed it up with a distinguished performance in the Round 22 clash with the Dragons last Friday at the SCG.

“It’s good. The minutes have been a bit different each week for myself so it’s always good to be able to get some good minutes out," said Cook.

"The 70 minutes is good, I feel like I handled it fairly well, there’s still a few things I need to work on my game but I’ll just keep on working on those things and they’ll come week to week.

"I know it’s late on in the year but I’ve only just started in the starting position so I’m going to keep on working on it.

"Building those combinations is good, AJ put me over for a try on the weekend, linking up with the halves I feel like we’ve got a good connection there and we’re going to keep building that up combination in the spine as well."

Given the nod by Maguire to continue in the starting role at number nine, Cook is keen to line-up against his former teammates at the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs this Thursday at ANZ Stadium. Although, the nimble hooker was quick to remind journalists that he had history with the Dragons prior to last weekend's clash as well.

Cook is expecting no concessions from his former teammates at the Bulldogs, who he still occasionally sees, but is determined to do his talking on the field.

“It’s always good to come up against former clubs that you played for, I did it on the weekend against the Dragons as well, where I debuted, and I played most of my games for the Dogs before I came to Souths," said Cook.

"I still know a lot of the boys, I still see them around so it’ll be good to come up against them playing against one of my old clubs."
