Every Game Is A Big Game In The NRL: Maguire

Words: Steph Burnham

Head Coach Michael Maguire spoke to the media ahead of round three’s clash with the Newcastle Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday.

Describing the current NRL results as fluctuating between the rounds, Maguire is aiming for his team to turn up on the weekend and add another two points to the board.

“Every game is a big game in the NRL,” said Maguire.

“Over the last couple of weeks you see the results fluctuate from round one to round two so you’ve got to make sure you turn up and be ready to go.”

With the Knights winning their first game in 11 months in round two, Maguire believes the team is competing differently to other teams in the competition and that Souths need to focus on each player doing their job.

“They are using some structures there that are a little different than what some teams have used in the past, so we need to make sure we are aware of what they are doing, because they are coming off the back fence, they’re running hard and doing all the fundamentals of the game well.

“We as a team need to make sure we look at our start, we are doing that and obviously the first 13 that are starting go out and do their job there.
