Issac Luke is looking forward to making the trip to Perth this week to take on his mates in the New Zealand Warriors outfit.
Having played alongside many of his countrymen for the Kiwis in his 29 Tests in the black and white, Saturday night’s match has a little bit of extra feeling for the New Zealander.
“I can’t wait to play against the boys,” laughed Issac.
“I’m really close with a few of them. Ben Matulino’s my best mate so we’ve been texting a bit.
“It’ll be good to get out and obviously do the 80 minutes and be able to catch up with them afterwards.”
Luke also urged Rabbitohs Members and supporters to head out to nib Stadium on Saturday night to create an atmosphere that will rival last year’s sell-out crowd that included plenty of Kiwis.
“We’re just looking forward to going over there and see how many fans we can get over there,” added Luke.
“I know there’s a strong New Zealand base obviously with a lot of my countrymen going over for the mines and all that kind of stuff.
“I know they’ll be at the game supporting the Warriors, so if we can match them, it’s going to be a great atmosphere.”
Luke made a successful return to first grade on Monday night against the Dragons after a lengthy stint on the sidelines with a shoulder injury, making 94 metres with the ball in hand and 20 tackles in a solid first outing.
The Rabbitohs rake played down the success of his return, citing that he simply did as much as he could.
“I pulled up alright – I only got about 50 minutes, but I’m happy with how I went,” said Luke.
“I went out there and tried to do my job and did as much as I could.”
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will take on the New Zealand Warriors this Saturday 7 June in round 13 at Perth’s nib Stadium – the Rabbitohs’ Western Australian home. To purchase tickets, please click here.
