Souths Cares Supports NAIDOC Celebrations in 2010

The South Sydney Rabbitohs and Souths Cares are proud to support NAIDOC celebrations each year and 2010 has been no exception with players attending a range of activities throughout the months of June and July.
Issac Luke and Fetuli Talanoa attended Earlwood Public School for the schools NAIDOC assembly before school finished for the July holiday period. Students performed two cultural dances, poems and songs celebrating the cultural diversity in their school and community.
Luke Capewell, Dave Tyrrell, Jamie Simpson and NYC Squad member James Roberts attended La Perouse Public Schools NAIDOC activities which included a didgeridoo playing exhibition and Indigenous Cultural dances. Luke and Dave were quick to show off their dancing skills performing an ‘Emu Dance’ with the students.
NYC Squad member James Roberts attended the NAIDOC Sports Day at Alexandria Park Community School and the NAIDOC Family Day at La Perouse delivering a range of prizes to be distributed throughout the days activities.
Souths Cares Ambassador David Peachey and Rabbitohs NRL player Chris McQueen attended NAIDOC activities over a two-day period in Coffs Harbour. David and Chris spent their time reading to children at storytelling sessions, participating in bush tucker cooking demonstrations and planting trees at the City Centre’s new Aboriginal mural site.
Chris Sandow attended NAIDOC celebrations at Prince of Wales Hospital Randwick where Babana Men’s Group were fundraising to establish a respite room in the hospital, with Koori Radio broadcasting live from the hospital premises.
Beau Champion, Nathan Merritt and Rhys Wesser spent time visiting two correctional facilities for NAIDOC celebrations with Nathan and Rhys visiting Silverwater Correctional Complex and all three players visiting Long Bay Correctional Complex.
