We are improving: JT

Rabbitohs head coach Jason Taylor said his side has improved on their performances week to week despite the narrow loss to the Sharks.

Cronulla went out to a 12-0 lead before the Rabbitohs fought their way back to 12-10 midway through the second half but were unable to score a matchwinning try in the final minutes of the game.

Taylor admitted the Rabbitohs are lacking confidence but said they put in an improved performance in the round five clash.

“There was some improvement there and that is a pleasing thing,” Taylor said.

“It was clear to me that it was an improved performance against the Sharks. Our commitment to what we had to do was there and we improved our cohesion with the ball but it wasn’t enough to get the two points.

"The challenge now for us is to keep positive, we were close to a win but it didn’t come and we have to work harder.”

Taylor said there were a number of positives his side could take out of the game but that they needed to improve their patience and their option taking under pressure for the Heritage Round six match against the Tigers this Sunday April 20 at the SCG.

“We have to improve our decision making as a team,” Taylor said.

“We are a competitive team and we work very hard for each other. We are doing the simple things well we are just letting ourselves down with the decision making. That is where the improvement lies, we need to be smarter.

"When we get down in the opposition 20 we have to make the most of our opportunities there. We are a team that is lacking confidence and the patience has to be there. That’s what we have to work hard on.”

South Sydney co-captain Roy Asotasi said he and his team mates put together a solid all round performance against the Sharks for the first time this year and need to build on that this week in the lead up to game against the Tigers.

“The effort was there against the Sharks, and it was the first time we have played consistently like that this year,” Asotasi said.

“It was an 80 minute team performance and that is encouraging. We are staying positive through all of this. We just need to keep our heads up and work hard and fight our way out of it.”
