Simpson Wins Good Guy of the Month Award
02 Jul 2009
On behalf of everyone connected with the South Sydney Rabbitohs football club, we congratulate Jamie Simpson on receiving the NRL's One Community Good Guy of the Month.
It is a much deserving award for Simpson who gives a great deal of his spare time to helping people within the community via his work with Souths Cares.
Jamie, the 2008 winner of the Souths Cares award for Services to the Community and nominee for the NRL’s Ken Stephen Medal, is profoundly involved in many Souths Cares initiatives including the Teachers Aide program. This program delivers healthy and active lifestyle plans as well as numeracy and literacy curriculum.
Jamie has also partaken in several visits to ill kids in the Sydney Children’s Hospital including one at Easter this year to see the children who were not well enough to go to the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Jamie is also a regular visitor to Westmead Children’s Hospital in his role as ambassador for ‘Cure Our Kids’.
Jamie visited Toormina High School in Coffs Harbour this year and in May he attended several junior footy clinics with local children in Griffith.
The two-time cancer survivor also attended a Community Day at Walsh Village Pharmacy in Maroubra which involved local junior footy teams and many people from the area.
“It was a great surprise to hear that I had received the ‘Good Guy of the Month’ award for July,” Simpson said.
“I don’t do the community work that I do for recognition but it does help the organisations I visit to raise awareness of their organization and the work they do, which is pleasing.
“I enjoy working with people in the community, particularly the patients and staff and Westmead Children’s Hospital through the work I do with ‘Cure Our Kids’.
“Putting a smile on their face is what it’s all about.”
Once again, a big congratulations and thanks to Jamie for all of his hard work and dedication in giving back to the community.
