Rabbitohs Back for 2010

The South Sydney Rabbitohs full time training squad has returned to training for the 2010 season today, with the players undergoing their first profiling and testing session.

The players, including new recruits Dave Taylor and Ben Ross, underwent physical competency testing in the morning, followed by fitness testing and weights.

The players, under the supervision of Head Coach John Lang, Director of Athletic Performance Errol Alcott and Strength and Conditioning Coach Grant Duthie, completed the first day of testing at around 3pm.

The fitness testing included the ‘beep test’, run on the eastern sideline of Redfern Oval. Ben Lowe, Dylan Farrell, Shannan McPherson and Jason Clark were the top performers.

Tomorrow the profiling and testing will continue, with skinfolds, strength and conditioning session on the menu.

“It was good to get into today and meet all the guys,” Taylor told the gathered media.

“I didn’t finish my 2009 too long ago so I’m here for the testing then I’ll have a couple more weeks off before really getting stuck in to the pre-season.

“I’ve settled in well and the guys have been very welcoming.”

Taylor has said he would like to play in the second row in 2010.

“I feel comfortable running out wide like I was for the Brisbane Broncos last season so hopefully I can get a run in the second row,” he said in the Redfern Oval grandstand.

“In saying that there are a lot of good forwards at the Club so I’ll just work hard to make sure I get a spot.”

Ben Ross was delighted to be back training again.

“It’s great to be back and I’m really excited about playing at Souths,” Ross said.

“I have to have a small operation where they take some bone from my hip and fuse it into my neck.

“It will speed up my recovery and hopefully I’ll be back doing full contact sessions before Christmas.

“It’s exciting to be here at Souths with a fresh start.”

The Rabbitohs will train through until late December where they will take a short break over Christmas, including their first training camp at Camp Rabbitoh in Coffs Harbour.
