Judiciary Charges Rd 1

The NRL Match Review Committee has laid two charges following round one action. No charges have arisen from the Rabbitohs v Roosters Centenary Season Opener.

The Eels' Feleti Mateo and the Tigers’ Todd Payten have both been hit with contrary conduct/unnecessary head/neck pressure charges. Mateo will not miss a week with an early guilty plea (grade one), while Payten will miss two weeks (grade two) with an early guilty plea.

In regard to the incident involving Rabbitohs halfback Craig Wing and Roosters hooker Riley Brown the NRL Match Review concluded:

“Wing was held in tackle by Anthony Tupou and Braith Anasta when Brown makes forceful contact with his arm/shoulder to the upper back/shoulder of Wing. All elements of Brown's contribution to the tackle were analysed. The tackle was not late as momentum was still in the tackle and the referee had not called held when contact occurred. Point of contact was with Wing's back by Brown’s shoulder, therefore no elements of the contact were deemed illegal. Consideration was given to whether the conduct was in the "true spirit of the game" but as no elements of Brown's actions were deemed illegal it is difficult to contend the conduct was not in the "true spirit of the game". No further action.”

In the remaining round one game the Storm play the Warriors at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne tonight.
